Title: The Pants
Author: Tamy
Rating: another G
Pairing: Sam/Janet
Spoilers/episode Missing scene from Forever in a Day
kinda sorta a sad humor thing. If you've never had to get ready to
leave town for a funeral in a hurry, the humor may not strike you.

author's note: as a Height deprived individual, when I saw the
funeral scene, the length of Janet's pants sent me into hysterics.
Obviously, something happened and she had no time to shorten them.
Plus, she was wearing her flat heels, not those 3" things she wears
on base.
This is dedicated to Witchazel for finding me a clear picture of the
scene and Momma Kat- the greatest- sorry I couldn't come up with
smut.
beta'd and updated 02.11.01. Thanks Suzotcha, my writing is all the better for you! Wrote it in about 15mins in the WalMart parking lot (I was trying on pants, it was quite traumatic)
"Sam!"
"SAMANTHA CARTER. "
The woman being bellowed at set down her coffee mug, turned from the kitchen and sauntered down the hall.
"You bellowed?" She casually ask the 5'2" whirlwind dashing around the room in front of her. Wearing nothing but panty hose, flat shoes and her dress uniform blouse. Both their dress jackets were neatly folded n the bed.
Said whirlwind turn abruptly, startling the taller woman back a step. "Yeah," the normally calm doctor Fraiser poked at her, "you," poke. "Were supposed to," Poke. Poke. "Pick up the damn dry cleaning." Poke, poke, poke.
"Oh, sorry," she couldn't help sheepishly grinning down at the other woman's flaming, brown eyes. Blink. She looked up from under her eye lashes. Blink. Rubbing slightly at the shoulder Janet had been poking.
"Not this time, Major Carter." Poke. "You," Poke, "Have plenty to wear," Poke, "*I*, on the other hand," poke, "Only have my new uniform pants to wear."
"Oh," Sam smiled happily, "is that all? So? The General and Colonel both said dress uniform, pants, flat shoes. Abydos has *lots* of sand you don't want to walk ...in... your... heels?" she trailed off, dropping into a question.
Glaring her petite lover placed her fists on her hips (at least she stopped poking me, Sam thought). Slowly backing off, she turned muttering.
"Um.. Janet? What's the problem?" Sam asked.
"You! You have all these green, blue, black fatigues day in and day out. *YOU* don't have to worry about uniforms, do you? *YOU* Don't have to worry about.. about... "Janet whirled around to the closet and yanked a pair of new dress pants off a hanger. Throwing them on, she turned to Sam. Just in time to catch her covering a laugh.
"Not funny Samantha Carter. Not funny," Janet muttered, "and my high shoes are out of the question" she ended.
"Sorry Janet," Sam snorted "but, you are adorable."
Suddenly serious, she approached Janet. Taking her in her arms she wrapped her arms about the slighter woman. Holding her tight she murmured into her hair, "Love you. Trust me, Daniel won't mind. He just wants us there. Okay?"
Pulling back they looked in each other's eyes for some reassurance from the other. Sam smiled, kissing Janet on the forehead. "Come on, we're gonna be late."
Turning together and gathering their jackets, the two women left the house hand in hand.
LATER, at the Stargate....
"Major, Doctor, glad you decided to join us so promptly," one grumpy, slightly red eyed Colonel O'Neill grumbled.
"Sorry sir, I had a problem with my uniform," Janet answered, standing at attention. Trying to look taller than she felt at the moment. The bunching fabric around her ankles slightly uncomfortable.
"Oh, okay," he grunted. Turning, Jack O'Neill made sure Teal'c, General Hammond and both women were there.
O'Neill signaled up to the control room, watching the Stargate turn as each of the chevrons were encoded and locked. The 'gate engaged with a "whoosh" and settled. He gestured to the General and Teal'c to start up the ramp, then the women. He brought up the rear.
Just as they were about to start through the Stargate to their sad destination at the other end, the Colonel pulled Janet up short with a touch to her shoulder. She looked up at him with a small, sad smile. Jack met her smile back with an odd grin.
"Sir?" She questioned.
"Sam forget the dry cleaning again?" He half chuckled. Just as Sam stumbled into the open Stargate.
